New Balance 498 Review

First of all I want to say that the New Balance 498 is one of the most versatile and best shoes I have ever had. I have had my 497's for a few years now and loved them. In between, however, I tried out a few other shoes that just didn't compare. When I would go out running it would cause pains in my toes and ankles. The other shoes were fairly comfortable, but didn't compare to these. Of course these are a lot lighter feeling too, just snug enough to make running comfortable and not too snug that it causes the toe and ankle pain the others did. Another thing I can really appreciate is the fact that they are not all flashy and kiddy looking like a lot of the other running shoes out there. New balance is one of the only brands that provides nice, non flashy running shoes that I can live with.

These shoes are amazingly comfortable I don't see how they can improve on this much more or even at all I give it a 9/10. Whether you run for the long haul or just as a hobby these are perfect. Even if you do no running at all and just want a regular shoe these will have your feet nice and pain free no matter how much or far you have to walk in a regular day.

Like I said earlier I enjoy the design on all the New Balance line of shoes. They aren't too flashy and they work no matter what you use them for, from day to day use, or just running. They aren't some strange color so you stand out or anything like that. For that reason I gotta give them a 10/10 since a lot of other shoes designed for running don't fit this criteria.

New Balance is kind of known for their ability to make a really durable shoe. And the 498 is no exception. The outer sole is made of solid rubber, so if you run on gravel, trails, or anything else that would normally tear up a shoe this will probably make it one of the best investments of your life. Depending on how often and far you run, you could probably get around 3 years of life out of these shoes for a normal person.

A big issue for a lot of people, and understandably so, is the pricing. If they aren't reasonably priced they aren't worth looking at. I understand that issue and they actually are very fairly priced at anywhere from $70 - $80. You can save some more money if you spend more at some stores, but that is up to you.
