Sorry about your bad luck. Of course nothing is going to last forever. However, I always suggest getting an extended warranty for everything you plan on keeping for a long time, as it is really worth the extra money.
I had the same problem with another vacuum and all it was, was A belt being worn down that I had to replace. Did it all myself for about $12 total. They probably had you with maintenance fees and such, but what company doesn't change an arm and a leg for maintenance? With the shipping and other things it all adds up.

I've been using Miele for years the tool works efficiently for my carpet.I never thought cleaning was that easy using this powerful cleaning robot. Before buying, I've checked out feedbacks from the customers and most of them were positive.
There is nothing better than a Miele vacuum cleaner. I use to sell Rainbow vacuum cleaners that used water to capture the dirt. There are good vacuums but they are a mess to clean up. I have had my Miele for 9 years and it has been unstoppable. I would buy another in a heartbeat!
I had a rainbow before also! I loved and hated how they use water to clean... everything felt so much cleaner, but I think it was all in my head. And like you said a pain to clean up.
What was cool was that you could take off the hose put some fragrance in the water and let it run and it would act like an air freshener! But anyways I use a Miele now and it works for a vacuum and thats all that matters haha.
I purchased a Miele Mistral S7280 in April 2010. After 6 months, it just died. It had to have it's circuit board replaced. In Jan 2012, it died again and again it needs to have a new circuit board. The repair shop gave me a loaner vacuum which is a Miele canister model. This one has quit running as well the first time I used it. What could be the problem?? I dont have a lot to vacuum as most of my house is hardwood...so it cant be from overuse!
I had to replace the cord winder due to a bad connection. A few months ago the unit stopped completely, fearing it was ths the circuit board, and the price. I removed it and rewired the uint. Now it only works on high.

I bought the Milel vac two years ago, the motor as gone bang,it smells of burning and very noisey, exspensive repair.so please don't believe all the rubbish about they last forever.
