Leonberger dogs require gentle training rather than the more disciplined approach to training. They are a very timid dog, unless threatened and you may make them feel threatened on accident so I am sure why you can see this would be a problem. They are one of the nicest dogs you will ever find too so you won't be able to stay mad at them for too long anyways. They respond well to a stern voice and no physical conferentation.
