How to Detect Fleas in Your Home
75Fleas are a nightmare, usually tied to having pets. However, your house can get fleas just as easily on your children or even yourself. With over 2000 different types of fleas they are all around and bound to get into your house at some time. The best way to get rid of them though is prevention and finding them before they get real bad. The sooner you catch them the less there will be so it will be MUCH easier to get rid of them. Within a months time there can be thousands of fleas in your home. So catch it quick and act fast and you won't have too hard of a time getting rid of them.
Detect Fleas With Your Socks
This is the easiest way to find out if you have fleas looking for a ride in your carpet. See most fleas will sit in your carpet and wait for you, a pet, or your children to way by then hop on for a ride. So you will take advantage of this to find out if there are any waiting around.
Basically get a pair of white socks so the brown and blackish little fleas are easily visible. Then take small steps and keep looking down. Basically you want to cover every inch of all the high traffic areas of your house and looking out for any jumping bugs. If you see any then like I said earlier, you need to jump on it and get rid of them quick.
Look For Flea Bites
If you look around your legs for small red blemishes on your skin, sometimes they will turn into bumps as well. This isn't so much for sure as you could have an allergic reaction to pollen or something like that and it could look very similar but it will at least give you an idea.
Another thing to keep in mind is if you feel a biting sensation on your leg but look down and don't see anything except a red bump that is how fleas work. They bite and jump so fast you probably won't ever catch them. So make sure to pay attention and not actually look for them while they are biting, do another way of searching for them so you can make sure.
Look For Flea Feces
Lots of people don't do this, and I know it sounds kind of disgusting but its a very good way to tell if you have fleas. Basically since fleas eat blood they also excrete it as a reddish brownish waste. So if you have a wet rag and wipe it across the carpet and other areas where you think fleas could be hanging out you need to look for blood streaks. They will be small since fleas are small so keep a close eye, but it will be there. This can show you where most of them are hanging out so you can exterminate most of them when you are ready all in one swoop.

We are losing our minds in our home; my wife and son are getting bitten by something and the bites resemble flea bites. We found 1 flea a few weeks ago and vacuumed the crap out of the house but did not find any fleas in the vaccuum. 2 weeks after the flea was found and killed bites on my son started showing up. We can not find any feces, bugs or eggs anywhere in the house!!! We have even tried the lamp/white towel and dish with soap/water solution but no fleas. Any ideas?
